Teachers Helping Teachers

Initial Teacher Training
At Claremont, we co-ordinate and deliver high quality school-based initial teacher training (ITT). We work in close partnership with our Outstanding* ITT provider, Teach Kent and Sussex SCITT. (www.teachkentandsussex.org.uk)

The Primary courses that we offer are:
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from The University of Sussex as well as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The course is available as a one-year full time option or a part-time two-year option.
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from The University of Sussex as well as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with mathematics. To follow this route, trainees need to hold an A Level mathematics qualification Grade B or above.

In 2020-2021 we had 74 trainees across primary and secondary settings. Claremont Primary School provide two of the senior mentors for the programme and many of our teachers lead Professional Development sessions as well as mentoring trainees.

School to School Support
We are passionate about providing high quality school-to-school support to spread excellent practice, particularly to schools that need it most.
  • Over two years (2018-2020), we supported 30 local schools through Altius Teaching School Alliance with Key Stage 2 maths through funding from the DfE for a SSIF project.
  • In 2020-2021 we supported up to 100 schools across Kent with the new DfE statutory roll out of Relationships and Health Education. This has included facilitating training, providing Case Studies for the DfE as well as personalised school-specific support.

Claremont are still keen to provide effective school to school support in the future. The offer of support is under review currently in line with National changes. We have SLEs in Maths, School Business and experienced professional development providers in Curriculum, Art, ITT, EYFS and SEND. Please contact us if you would like any information.

Partnership with Kent Teaching School Hub
We are currently working alongside Kent Teaching School Hub in a variety of
ways. Our Headteacher is on their steering group as a primary representative and facilitates NPQ training for Senior Leaders through Ambition Institute. Our Deputy Headteacher is supporting ECTs and their mentors as a Support Tutor which is also through Ambition Institute.

Early Years
We are supporting the DfE with the roll out of the new EY framework and providing exemplification material with a focus on judgements and assessment. These video materials will be available soon.
