Health and Medical
Claremont Primary School is committed to enabling all pupils to participate in all aspects of school life.
If your child suffers from a long term or serious medical condition, for example, an allergy, asthma, epilepsy, please complete a Medical Needs form available from the school office (or from the Download a Form page). If it is necessary to complete an Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP), the school will contact you directly. IHPs are issued for more serious or ongoing medical issues that require the school's involvement.
Parents of pupils requiring prescribed medication need to fill out an Administering Medicines In School form (also available on the download a form page) so that their teacher can give them the correct dose, at the correct time.
It is a parent's responsibility to inform and update the school of any illnesses or medical conditions their child may have (such as asthma and allergies). If your child is suffering from either vomiting or diarrhoea, the school follows NHS guidance and your child is required to stay off school until 48 hours after their last bout of illness.
Pupils requiring an inhaler or an EpiPen, should have two permanently at school, one for the classroom and one for the medical room. If a child requires either or both of the above, we cannot permit the child to be in school without the required medication, or if the medication is out of date.
Children are not permitted throat sweets at school, due to the potential choking hazard and we do not, as a rule, normally give out over-the-counter medication during the school day except in special circumstances. This is administered at the teacher's discretion. Further information is available in the Supporting Medical Conditions Policy.
